The majority of contemporary teen slang is an invention of internet culture - the websites and applications such as Tik Tok, Twitter (X) and YouTube, and music genres such as rap and pop. There are numerous terms which are viral video and influencer catchphrases, and online gaming chats. There are even slang words that derive out of older words and have acquired a new meaning. As an example, the word Lit used to mean drunk, yet, currently its meaning is exciting. The contribution of online communities in terms of shaping and dissemination of these words all over the world within days is enormous.
