Some tips that might help:
1.Always give story quests top priority for researching.
2.Do not waste resources on training but on military researches and building a good commander.bcz numbers wont be affecting battles much instead your research and commanders skill.
3.Finish trade related researches as as fast as you can–they help in getting more trade profits,which is main source of income,if you are not a warmonger.
4.Some pioneering related stuff-
NEVER DESERT YOUR FIRST DOM(OR CITY)…And…
Do not hesitate deserting(not the first one) if its not giving you enough profits(trade)…its always good to pioneer to better locations …so,its not a bad idea spending some sycees on deserting from the bad towns.
