My group has been into LARP for quite a while, but we’ve pretty much exhausted the games we’ve been playing and want something new to get into. We like darker settings, character politics and stories where there’s plenty of room for alliances and conflict between players, so we’d rather not switch to something completely different in tone. What game would you recommend trying next?
Looking for a new LARP game
After a group has been together that long, I wouldn’t pick the next game just because the setting sounds interesting. You need something that gives everyone new roles to settle into and enough room for the group dynamic to change once people start making choices. Dystopia Rising could be worth a look. It’s post-apocalyptic, with factions, grudges, deals and plenty of reasons for characters to work together one night and be at each other’s throats the next.
I’d probably stay close to the kind of game your group already knows how to have fun with and avoid throwing everyone into a completely different style of play. When status, favors and old grudges matter as much as whatever the main plot is doing, players usually have plenty to work with on their own. You can, for example, check out Laws of the Night V5 here https://shop.bynightstudios.com/laws-of-the-night-v5-deluxe-hardcover/ . It’s built around Vampire: The Masquerade LARP, with clans, social hierarchy and political conflict baked into the game. There’s enough there to start a new chronicle without it feeling like you just renamed the characters from the last one.
