I want to put together a small bench setup for working with control modules outside the car. Nothing huge or overly advanced at first — mainly a clean workspace where I can power modules safely, connect diagnostic or programming tools and test things without constantly using a vehicle as the test bench. I’ve started looking through the equipment and accessories at https://ecutools.eu/, but I’m trying to work out what I genuinely need from the beginning. Anyone here have a bench setup they use regularly? What would you consider essential and what can wait until later?
Building a bench setup for modules
For intermittent problems, an oscilloscope and good electrical testing tools have been much more useful to us than buying another scanner. Being able to watch a signal while moving the harness or putting a circuit under load can expose problems that stored fault codes never show. A circuit tracer can also save a lot of time when you’re dealing with wiring faults.
